Redken Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment* - £11.88 Hairtrade (link)

Since October I've known my hair hasn't been in as good condition as I know it should be in, I think illness and colouring had really taken it out of my hair. I'll also be honest and put it out there, that my hair care routine was pretty much rubbish - shampoo, condition, heat protector spray if you're lucky and that was it. Now I don't know if it was due to constantly wearing my hair up in a top knot, or stress but I noticed that my hair was snapping and falling out. Not to the extent which was noticeable to others, but to me it was far too noticeable. One of my New Year's goals is too focus back onto my haircare and get my hair back to the condition it was before.

It appears that I've now got a routine which works for my hair and the results are very much noticeable - my hair routine I'll save for another post. However one of the key products which I think has been working is Redken's Extreme CAT Protein Reconstructing Treatment. I've always been meaning to try Redken however as the brand is not readily avaliable to look at (this has now changed - see later) I didn't want to risk my chances. However sometimes taking a risk has its uses. I've lifted this straight from the bottle as what this treatment does "CAT protein restructuring treatment reconditions distressed hair. It provides combability, body, and shine to help prevent further damage". Now this is not a conditioning treatment - you still need to use conditioner with this (I use less than I would normally), as this works within the hair shaft, not on the outside like a conditioner.

How does it leave my hair?? In pretty good nick, I've noticed far less snapping and my hair is looking shiny and healthy and the best it's looked in a long time. I know I need to get a couple of inches chopped off, however this is something which I would happily recommend and I'll be repurchasing once used up. The only downside with this product is the bottle - when you're using this in the bath/shower with wet hands the bottle is very slippery. The amount of times I've dropped this in the bath or its flown out my hands is beyond a joke - dry your hands and the bottle before using.

If you're from the North East you'll be pleased to know that Hairtrade have opened a store in the Metro Centre near Boots on the first floor. I had a quick look around last week and it stocks Redken, Moroccan Oil, GHD, and I and K hair extensions to name a few of the brands I'd spotted. Next time you're in the Metro go and have a look.
