Even though at times I will sit and complain about my hair, I will admit that I am lucky in the sense that if I backcomb my hair, yes it may drop after a while but it does last. Literally as I was leaving the house en route to a weekend in Leeds with the Perve aka Kayleigh to you the post man delivered this Sexy Hair Backcomb in a Bottle, which I literally threw in my bag and didn't think anything about it until I got to Leeds. If you saw my February Favourites (link) you will already know that I'm a fan of the Sexy Hair range. Initially when backcombing sprays were the in thing to get, I deliberately didn't buy into the hype, purely based on the fact that my hair could hold backcombing with normal hairspray.
Backcomb in a bottle is formulated with resins which enables this teasing spray to give you that backcombed look without damaging your hair. Now this sounds good in principle however does it actually work? Personally I found it made no difference to my hair when I backcombed my roots, to when I use normal hairspray. I did find that this did keep my curls in my hair for slightly longer than usual and they didn't drop as much, however I'm still not convinced that this was due to the spray. I will say that on second day hair, this enabled me to get a much more voluminous top knot which was much needed on the basis that one too many cocktails had been drank and anything which required effort was too much.
Now if you have hair like Kayleigh (fine and a lot of it), backcombing on a night out for her lasts about an hour or so, then it falls flat. There's been numerous times I've been stood backcombing her hair for Britain in the toilets of Fat Buddha and then the backcombing will have vanished by the time we leave the loos. As soon as this was spied in my bag, she was begging to try it, and to be honest I couldn't have asked for a better person to try this with. As you can see from the above photo she has volume in her hair - all what she did was backcombed her hair as usual and the added some of this at the roots. I have to say she was blown away by this and her hair was exactly the same at the end of the night - however due to the state we were I won't be sharing photos.
In a nutshell if you can get away with normal hairspray to keep any volume in your hair, I'd give this a miss. However if you have fine hair and struggle with keeping any backcombing in your hair like Kayleigh, this product is for you. If you're looking to buy any of the Sexy Hair range, it's worth noting that Hairtrade are currently running a promotion where the majority of the products in the range have up to 40% off which you can find here. What are your thoughts on teasing sprays?
