MAC will always have a special place in my beauty obsessed heart. This was my introduction to the high end spectrum of the make up, then again, is MAC really that high end these days? Regardless, I'll always reach for their nude lipsticks, eye shadows, blusher and foundation - ALWAYS. Considering I've been writing the blog for what seems like a century, I feel like after a lot of trial and error with MAC foundations I've finally found the products which work well for me. So for reference, I normally only wear foundation now and again - mainly for nights out. I've got better things to do with my time (note - sleep) on a morning than putting a full face of slap on. Tan wise, my skin is a NW25 and without I'd say NW15 - 18. What I love about MAC foundations is that whatever shade you are - it's universal across them all.

The first ever foundation I bought from MAC was their Studio Tech Compact (£26) and I'll be honest with you I was matched way out not just once, but twice. Honestly one of these is orange - that's how bad it is. MAC describe this as a hybrid of water, emollients and powder which glide on for a perfect finish. If you are a fan of thick, heavy duty foundation, which isn't going to budge - this is the foundation for you. My main gripe with this is the fact that I can feel this on my skin and it's just too full coverage for my personal liking.

Next up is a foundation which so many of my friends swear by and that is Studio Fix Fluid (£22) - I think this is the foundation which you would associate with MAC. I've never actually owned a bottle of this, however Steph kindly donated the last bit of hers to me, to try before deciding if I want to buy it or not. MAC say that this is an oil controlling foundation which provides a matte, medium to full coverage. Matte finish - correct, easily buildable - correct. I don't think you can go wrong with this - if you apply this with a beauty blender, you can get more of a natural finish. I would definately purchase this in my natural skin tone to wear during the day, however for a night out, I feel like I may need to powder.

I'm now starting to panic as I can't find my beloved Studio Sculpt on the MAC website - please don't tell me this has been discontinued. However for nights out this is by far my holy grail foundation, This is a medium to full coverage gel based foundation which provides a satin finish. However it's worth noting that a little bit goes a very long way. On a night out, this foundation doesn't budge, regardless of how hot and sweaty it is. Normally I buff this into the skin using a Sigma F80 brush and then go over it with my beauty blender.

Finally two foundations which if you are looking for a light coverage - these are for you. First up is the iconic Face and Body (£22) which has a water like consistency, yet is easily buildable. By far this is my least favourite MAC foundation - I can't get away with the scent and it can feel quite tacky on the skin. I know so many people rave about this, but personally I wouldn't recommend this. As I'm in the midst of Project Ten, I'm currently trying to use up their Select Sheer/Pressed Powder (£21) which I do use as a foundation, on those no make up, make up days. This doesn't have as much coverage for powder, like their MSFN does, however this does add a soft focus effect on the skin. This also has a mirror in the compact and a little powder puff, so it's ideal for on the go touch ups. Unlike other pressed powders, these actually match the foundation shades, so you instantly know which shade you're going to be. Are you a fan of MAC foundations? Which is your favourite?
